Los ‘doldrums’ (zona de calmas ecuatoriales en la línea de interconvergencia tropical) aparecieron en la latitud 3ºNorte ( a 300 kilómetros la Nrote del Ecuador y la intensidad del viento empezó a caer en picado al mediodía de ayer. El ‘Ericsson 4′ de Torben Grael, líder de la prueba quedó atrapado en ese área y ni el cambio de rumbo, pasando de Sudeste a Sur directo evitó que el ‘Puma’ estadounidense y el ‘Ericsson 3′ sueco se colocasen a sólo 15 millas (28 Km.) de él. Desatada la batalla entre el trío de cabeza, empezó el ataque desde el Norte del ‘Telefónica Azul’ de Iker Martínez, favorecido por vientos del Nordeste de 17 nudos (32 Km./h.). El ‘Ericsson 4′ cruzaba el Ecuador a la 01:00 (hora española) de hoy y en las últimas 24 horas había perdido más de 200 kilómetros con respecto al ‘Azul’, que se veía sorprendido por un fuerte ataque desde el Este del ‘Creen Dragon’ irlandés de Ian Walker, que le superaba a las 02:00 (hora española) de hoy. Ahora el ‘Telefónica’, a unos 100 kilómetros del paso del Ecuador ha decidido tomar rumbo directo Sur e intentar ganar millas con respecto al ‘Green Dragon’, aunque el barco irlandés, el más rápido en las últimas 24 horas con 345 millas (640 Km.) recorridas, también ha realizado la misma maniobra. El viento es ahora de componente Este y muy inestable en la zona donde navega el ‘Telefónica Azul’, que ha cedido unas 40 millas (72 Km.) al ‘Green Dragon’, que ahora el aventaja en unas 12 (22 Km.). El ‘Ericsson 3′ de Magnus Olsson, siguiendo probablemente una táctica preparada junto a su gemelo, se mantiene en el mismo rumbo que el ‘Puma’ y sólo les separan 3 millas (5 Km.), por lo que la embarcación estadounidense deberá variar su táctica y cesar en la persecución del líder.
